Travelling with your bicycle can be an exciting and adventurous experience. Whether you’re cycling through the mountains or exploring a new city, your bike can take you places that you may not have been able to see otherwise. However, it’s important to keep in mind that travelling with your bicycle can also come with some risks. This is where travel insurance comes in.
Here’s the travel insurance I got for my trip from FWD.

I got the add-on for sports equipment too.

Travel insurance which covers sports equipments is designed to protect you in the event of an accident, theft or damage to your bicycle while you’re travelling. Here are some reasons why travel insurance is necessary when travelling with your bike:
- Accidents Happen: No matter where you’re cycling, accidents can happen. You could be involved in a collision with a car or another cyclist, or you could lose control of your bike and fall. If you are involved in an accident, bicycle insurance can help cover the cost of any medical expenses or damages to property.
- Theft: Bike theft is a common occurrence, especially in tourist areas. If your bike is stolen while you’re travelling, bicycle insurance can help cover the cost of a replacement.
- Damage: Travelling can put your bike at risk of damage in a variety of ways. Maybe your bike gets damaged during transportation, or maybe a storm causes a tree limb to fall on it. Bicycle insurance can help cover or at least alleviate the cost of repairs.
- Liability: If you are involved in an accident that causes damage to someone else’s property or injures someone, you could be held liable for the damages. The insurance can help cover/alleviate the cost of any damages or legal fees.
When it comes to choosing a travel insurance policy for travelling with bikes, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, make sure you understand what is covered under the policy. Some policies may only cover theft, while others may cover theft, damage, and liability. Second, make sure the policy is affordable and fits within your budget. Finally, make sure the policy is reputable and has good customer reviews, easy claim process is a ++++++ for me. FWD has an app, you can do it directly through the app!
In addition to the insurance, there are also some preventative measures you can take to protect your bike while travelling. Always lock your bike up when not in use, and invest in a high-quality lock. Additionally, make sure you have lights and reflectors on your bike to increase visibility. You can also bubble wrap your bike frame/whole bike and if you’re flying with your bike, use a bike box.

Anywaysss…travelling with your bicycle can be a wonderful experience, but it’s important to be prepared for any risks that may arise. The travel insurance (+ equipment add-on) can provide the necessary protection you need in the event of an accident, theft or damage. Make sure you choose the right policy for your needs, and take preventative measures to protect your bike while travelling!
